Annual profections are a Hellenistic timing technique: starting from your natal Ascendant sign, one whole sign "activates" for each year of your life, cycling through all twelve signs every 12 years. Whichever planet traditionally rules the activated sign becomes your Lord of the Year — and that planet's condition and placement in your natal chart is said to describe the themes and events likely to define the year ahead.
This calculator uses traditional (pre-modern) planetary rulerships — Mars for Scorpio, Saturn for Aquarius, and Jupiter for Pisces — matching the original Hellenistic system rather than the modern outer-planet rulers added since the 18th century.
