Jupiter and Saturn each turn retrograde roughly once a year for four to five months; Uranus, Neptune and Pluto for even longer. Because outer planets move so slowly to begin with, their retrogrades feel less like sharp disruptions and more like an extended, generational-scale internalising of whatever house and sign they occupy.
A planet retrograde at birth is read very differently from a retrograde transit — it becomes a permanent feature of personality rather than temporary weather. Natal retrograde planets are commonly read as that energy turned inward, developing later or more unconventionally than an equivalent direct placement.
